Drones designed by IIT Hyderabad students were used to spray pesticides on crops at the Agricultural Research Station, where an agricultural exhibition is being held, on the outskirts of Karimnagar, Telangana, on December 17.

Collector RV Karnan and authorities also inspected the spraying process. A drone can spray 10 gallons of pesticides per acre in 10 minutes, the designers said. The collector along with District V Sridhar Agricultural Officer and other officials opened the exhibit and interacted with agricultural students.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector said that farmers should focus on integrated dry crops during Yasangi (Rabi) season, even if they have planted rice in Kharif. One should be aware of modern farming methods and cultivation tools, he added. Farmers were invited to share their experiences with each other and take into account farm managers’ suggestions on crop yield at a seminar for ryots.

He suggested that agricultural students visit the fields and learn about the farmers’ experiences. Going into the field would help students gain an understanding of real farming practices, he said.
