Srinagar, 07 April: Amid reports of widespread insect attacks damaging the inflorescence in apple orchards, Director General (DG) Horticulture, Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat visited various areas of Baramulla on Thursday.

The DG was accompanied by a team of scientists from SKUAST, Kashmir and other department officers.

The team inspected the affected orchards and assessed the severity of the pest. It was found that only the orchards witnessed the attack where the farmers skipped the HMO spray.

Speaking on the occasion, the DG advised arborists to follow the “Spray Schedule 2022” in consultation with the department’s field officials or the KVK scientist. He also advised farmers never to miss any sprays recommended by the department, especially HMO.

He insisted on arborists to liaise closely with the department for better management of the pest.

The DG further added that the notice for the control of the insect will be shared by the department with the farmers from time to time. He also hopes that with the proper management of the pests and the cooperation of the arborists, the said pest will be controlled.

Additionally, affected areas were advised to spray one of the following 60% petal insecticides.

Chlorpyrifos 20 EC @100ml/100 liter of water Or Quinalphos 25EC @100ml/100 liter of water Or Chlorpyrifos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% @ 125ml/100 liter of water.
